I went to two dances in my first 12 years of school. It was awkward, mostly boring (except when scary) and not much fun at all. Astoundingly, a handful of decades later, dancing is one of my top three absolutely favorite things.
My mom forced me to take dancing lessons when I was in elementary school. She thought it was a skill a boy/young man should have. But I never danced at an elementary school or junior high dance because I didn’t want my friends to know I had lessons…and was really good at it.

Yeah, that sounds about right for a school dance…it was largely the reason why I was never too motivated to attend any myself back before I graduated.
