I tip toe around so my husband can sleep and he tries to do the same after 10 at night for me. Frankly, that early morning short stroll and stargazing is just for me and the dog. Beautiful moon today, BTW.
Our third daughter was up at 2:30 every morning. Daylight Savings would come and go but she would hit 2:30 within a day or two. The fact she wasn’t our last is saying something.
There are many things to be said for taking film to the drugstore.
Better photo quality (unbroken image vs. little chunks of data).
Unlimited enlargement is possible (enlarged digital images become an obvious collection of pixels; the bigger you go, the lower the quality – and a mere jump 4X6 to 8X10 is destroys the quality).
You have a picture forever (as we archivists say, “If it’s not eye-readable, it’s not preserved”; the one sure thing about digital files is that they will get corrupted. Yes, early color photos faded some – but didn’t disappear, and B&W look now as they did then; barring flood or fire, you have it. If Matthew Brady had used digital, we’d have no idea what Lincoln really looked like).
Less ego involved (with real photos, people didn’t think the world would be interested in every bite they eat and other such balderdash).
I once got up before the crack of dawn in mid-summer to take a picture of the sunrise over the lake. It was a prove to my boss that the picture I used on our website was a sunrise, not a sunset. She still didn’t like it, so I ended up gaudily false coloring it: blue sky, rainbow background to the sun on the horizon, and unnaturally ocean blue water with pink highlights in the sunburst’s reflection. Her response was “OMG That’s perfect! Why didn’t you do that before?”
What I miss about film is that the roll was a limited resource. That meant you had to try to make every shot count. With digital, you simply hold down the button and one of the shots will be okay, hopefully.
And wait for the Corona virus COVID19 gets into some of the strips. And it is going to get way worse before it will get better. High infection rate, the younger you are and more healthy the more of you will survive.

And to think, with DST Arlo didn’t have to adjust his rise and shine time for a second viewing.

My new phone’s 240 hr battery lasts about 22 hours, so I get blasted by the low battery alarm around 3:30 am if I forget to plug it in.

The main thing I like about retirement from a job where I was on call 24/7/365 is not having to sleep with the phone by my head.

My wife and I do the same thing when we’re in Cape Hatteras. I’m on the beach with my camera before dawn, she’s dead asleep in the hotel room.

I’m with Janis. The cats, however wanted to be fed and the dogs needed to be taken for their walkies and they don’t care about external clocks.
