Discuss, argue, debate, you will never convince another of anything. They have to see it for themselves. Then they can think that they thought of it. So it goes.
This is very creative if offbeat way of showing how some people can never be convinced to understand, if not agree, to other viewpoints. Seems very relevant now. (But as much as having Watterson still working on this strip would be great, I feel our times would make his head explode. Or at least the strip would be less enjoyable. I am by the way taking into account everything since he retired the strip at the end of 1995.)
My perception is my reality. Calvin’s perception is his reality. Yours is yours. Add all the perceptions together and you still don’t get Reality with a capital R. Just a big bunch of perceptions.
Watterson goes really deep on this one. It is so hard to place oneself in other’s shoes without tripping over your own laces. People like simple, repetitious, simple arguments. Oh, yes, every single person. I believe it, so it must be true. :)

Did dad say something and then say that it builds character again?

It’s an interesting idea. I wonder if cubism DID actually have some roots in that idea.

“Neo-cubist.” Calvin, you’re right! School is wasted on you. You are WAY past your grade level. For sure you didn’t get that from Miss Wormwood…

From up and down and still somehow
It’s cloud’s illusions I recall

At least Calvin was civil to his Dad and did not resort to name calling, throwing a tantrum, or being otherwise disrespectful.
