The Trumpists and the rest of the GOP know that letting more people vote is a recipe for losing elections. And they’re in favor of privatizing every government branch. QED.
Killing the United States Postal Service (which is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and, until Nixon, the Postmaster General was a cabinet-level position) accomplishes several things for Tump:
• Obstruct any effort towards mail-in voting.
• Payback for not (illegally) raising rates on Amazon as retaliation against Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post who Trump thinks hasn’t been “nice” to him.
• Reward private sector delivery carriers competing with the USPS such as UPS, FedEx, DHL, OnTrac and others who have donated heavily to Trump and Republican candidates
The difference, of course, is that the USPS is non-profit. It works for “we the people,” not “they the corporations. They deliver to every address, which the other services will not do, even if it is at a loss.
The USPS is entirely self-funded and is profitable. The only reason it appears otherwise is the absurd, unique requirement to pre-pay all future pension liabilities, something no other corporation or institution is required to do, and which was imposed by Republicans trying to destroy the U.S. Postal Service.
OK. So who do you suppose Tяцmp☠ & Mnuchin might appoint as Postmaster General? Someone who’s qualified because he (and you know that he’ll be a “he…”) delivered newspapers for a short while as a kid? Or maybe Jared?
Right from the start, Tяцmp☠’s remit from Vlad the Poisoner has been to destroy the United States, leaving Russia as the sole “superpower.”
So where is the politician brave enough to call out, spotlight, and hopefully humiliate the GOP for lies, cheating, and trying to destroy yet another federal agency? We can complain about it on this forum but all I hear in Congress is silence. Do we the people no longer have representation? And where is the media coverage? Does this show who really controls the media now?
If I was Megan Brennan, on 15 October I’d hold a press conference saying all mail service was stopping immediately, since Trump did not provide sufficient funds/loan….and let the voters take that to the polls.
That picture reminded me that yesterday in the news besides the stable genius’s brilliant ideas for covid-19 cures, one of his advisers said the country could be safely opened up if everyone was given a “space outfit” to wear … yeah …
How jaded we’ve become. Every day, 6 days a week, an agent of the federal government personally stops by your house or business on the off chance that you might want to send a birthday card to Grandma somewhere — anywhere! — in America. And then, for about half a buck, she’s reading it a couple of days later. Why is this not absolutely mind-blowing?
Stop the USPS from having to pay now for benefits in the far future. Remind also that a 50 cent letter will cost over $15 dollars if FedEx delivers it.
To hear Donald Trump, with his six or seven bankruptcies, talk about another organizations’ “bad business practices” is like hearing Jack the Ripper comment on the ethical treatment of women.
UPS, FedEx, DHL Express, and all other similar common delivery services should guarantee delivery of absentee ballots AT NO CHARGE for the 2020 General Election and all Secretaries of State should ALLOW delivery of absentee ballots by those carriers as well as the USPS. There should be as many delivery options as possible for the 2020 absentee ballots. If a state REFUSES to allow delivery by any other legitimate, public delivery service, alert the ACLU to get involved and, if possible, DONATE to your local/state ACLU. We MUST do all we can to protect and preserve our DEMOCRACY from the corrupt GOP Leadershit sycophants!
In Colorado, where mail-in ballots are used: in fairness to everyone, there are numerous drop-off locations at libraries, recreation centers, etc. It’s the only way to vote!

The USPS and the right to vote are “non-essential”. Meanwhile buying ammunition is “essential”.
I sure wish we were less deserving of what we’re getting.

Bonespurs will heal the USPS with IV alcohol injections, just like Covid patients.

Congress needs to push support for the USPS now. Grow a pair and fight the WH.

If politicians would allow the USPS to raise junk mail bulk rates to that of a first class stamp, it would be solvent overnight.

Trump and the GOP are working hard to exterminate mail-in ballots, to avoid this scenario…
