What better way to prune the tree than to shake it a bit?

I like the planting seeds illustration.

And Joe, maybe it’s just a few bad apples, then why don’t your fellow officers turn them in and throw them out?

A strong plan by Captian Ruiz. Joe is right too that most police are good. But, the Captain’s plan… seems like a strong step to helpful further enhance the good and perhaps being able to identify and potentially prune the not good. I like the presence of the Segue too… for it helps to show at least one method on how good police, who may not be as athletically capable or may be older… can still be helpful, good, productive officers for their community.

I more fall in with the bad apples argument. The new orchard argument, I’m seeing a slippery slope leading to the Stallone movie Demolition Man.

We stayed on the 11th floor of a Serviced Apt off Logan Circle in ’04 – looking down from the balcony was the first time we saw cops on Segways. It was also the first time the kid ever saw a Ladder Truck with a tillerman

For seeds to grow they need to be nurtured. No water, no food, grind them under foot, and – hate to tell you – they won’t grow. That’s an allegory, if you haven’t figured it out yet.

    Nice metaphor.

You grow what you plant. As ye sow, so shall ye you reap. You get more if what you reward. You teach what matters by what you value. Most fear grows from ignorance — on all sides.

I do like how the comic tackles the old cop standby of “a few bad apples” Captain ruiz recognizes the system is broken, and is trying her best to fix it. Granted i’m not sure the bike cop plan really DOES that, but it’s at least an attempt. While I like Joe as a character, he’s naive to assume it’s just a “few bad apples” at best.
