How would this one from 1991 one go in these days of COVID-19?:
Panel 1:
John: All ready this morning? You’d think you were both keen to get back to school.
Panel 2:
Michael: Yeah! The first day is always totally cool. Normally, you get your locker assignment, you find out which rooms you’re in….But this year we are going to drive by the school instead…
Panel 3:
Michael: Your teacher is going to be outside to hand you your books and your Zoom class schedule. Everybody sort of drives up and tries to avoid hitting the people protesting for in-person classes — an’ then you go home.
Panel 4:
Michael: This rest of the year is down hill from there. 2020 sucks.
The best thing about first day going back to school was having a new outfit and shoes to wear. I loved learning, but there was too much bullying for me to say these were good years….even 50 years later.
In a way, that was true for me at my first day at junior high. The reason being this was the first time I’d be moving from room to room and that was so confusing. I must’ve gotten lost 3 or 4 times. The teachers labeled me a troublemaker from then on out that year. Now, in middle school, they have an orientation day to take care of class changing problems and getting those locks to work.
Fairly true for first day. I know old strip. Now with virus, Middle and High student’s online learning first semester, grade school either in class or online. the same first semester.
I loved back to school shopping. I love ANY shopping! I was very involved when picking the right outfit to make a good first impression at school. If I felt I did it right, my attitude and my days went much better. School was prison. Once you were in there, you couldn’t get out. Your days were arranged by ringing bells. It was important that I had a good frame of mind. I must have, because I WAS happy there, for the most part. Except for the cliques in HS. No bullies in school, but cliques a plenty. Went to one HS reunion. All those cliques reformed again, right in front of your eyes. Never went to another.

At my school it was always a tradition to have hamburgers for lunch on the first day back to school. Don’t know if it still happens though.

As a teacher, I can attest to that, Mike.

I do NOT look on my 13 year career in the public prison…er….school system with much fondness, truth to tell. :(

Mike speaks truth. Even in grade school day #1 was exciting once you got past the having-to-wake-up-early part.

I recall the first day back at school as the day I put my shoes back on. I celebrated the last day by taking them off and going barefoot all summer.

Goodness, did Michael just pour half the box of cereal into his bowl?

School is going to suck this year because teachers are afraid of COVID and the students are the ones who will be punished.

Going downhill is easy; even fun. It’s uphill that can be challenging.

I can’t argue with that little quip… Not until I reached the 11th grade anyway.

If it was fall of 1991, then all attention would how people are panicking that socialism has failed. The writing is on the wall for the USSR.
