Gorrell is, of course, being hypocritical, since the republicans are the ones trying to pack the Supreme Court, first by refusing to even vote on Obama’s choice (ten months before the election) and now trying to ram through a Trump pick (less than two months before an election.
item three: Both have been of interest to Democrats for literally decades. Sometimes those two entities have wanted to become states, sometimes not. In view of the whole paper towel fiasco, PR is a little more interested than often. DC has never not wanted more representation. All those residents without much say in the federal elections…
Because rethugicans view brown people as a liability at best, and vermin to be exterminated in their fondest fantasies. Having more of them vote does not align with their concept of the Master, Christian race.
Don’t forget, Mr. Gorrell, the distinct possibility that between 1 and 6 Rethuglicon senators will be defeated in their re-election campaigns as the RBG issue is showing voters in their states their true colors. Expansions of Medicare for All, clean energy laws and monies, many other measures anathema to Rethuglicons will be passed.
I guess the Democrats are about sick and tired of being the doormats to a group that has no ethics, principles, integrity, or conscience. Sometimes you just have to poke an abusive bully in the nose to get their attention.
Bob is correct to worry about these things. But he has to understand that the Republicans are bringing it on themselves. The Republicans now ignore any precedent that is in their way. They tell any lie that suits their purposes. (I am not saying the Democrats are saints. It is just at this point they are far better than the Republicans.) The most recent example is the Supreme Court nomination. When they broke precedent in not confirming Obama’s pick for the supreme court because it was his last year they clearly said what they were doing was to be the new precedent. Now it is not convenient for them so they ignore what they said. It is true that nominating and confirming a supreme court justice 40 odd days before the election does not break any law. But it is highly unethical due to what they said a mere 4 years ago. The Democrats are going to have to behave in the exact same manner. Everything Bob points out that he fears the Democrats will do is legal. They all break decades of precedent however and could be called unethical. But, the Democrats can’t leave themselves in a situation where only they follow the inconvenient precedents.
If Biden wins and the Democratic Party gets control of the Senate (and there is a reasonable chance this happens) they absolutely have to do everything listed above. I greatly fear where this is going to take the nation. But, Republicans have to understand that if they confirm a new justice this year they are bringing it on themselves. Democrats can’t behave ethically if the Republicans don’t. And as we have seen over the last few decades this is a slippery slope. Things will get worse if the scenario I laid out occurs.
So, I hope the Republican Party thinks things through carefully.
And just what is wrong with eliminating the filibuster?
It used to be that bills would be brought to the Senate floor, debated, and then voted either up or down. Rarely, a Strom Thurmond would stand up and yammer for days against recognizing equal rights for {insert whichever group you choose, here} in the hopes that his allies could round up enough votes to defeat the proposal. THAT is a filibuster.
Now? There is no debate, no discussion, no compromise, just McConnell using his desk as a graveyard for democracy.

Seriously, you couldn’t come up with a single bullet point for Trump’s second term?
One of the reasons people voted for Trump in 2016, was that he was different from the status quo(Clinton), and Trump’s pitch was “what’s the worst that could happen”
now we know. 200,000+ people dead, and he’s still playing it down by claiming it only affects old people.
millions of people are out of work because we are now in month 7 of having to stay home, because Trump refuses to demand everyone wear masks to stop the spread of a deadly virus. He cannot ever admit to a mistake and correct it, instead he’s willing to continue letting 1,000 people a day die.
He’d rather force the CDC to change their guidance than admit that masks work.
Bob must get his lack of honesty from the GOP, since he misleadingly framed some Democrats comments as unconnected to the senate confirming a justice this year. Shame on you, Bob.
Both those places have more residents than Wyoming and Vermont. PR has more people than Iowa. Moscow Mitch and pals are dishonest liars and hypocrites.
