Charlie. I’d love to say that “when you’re an adult, you’ll understand” but I’m an adult myself and still can’t understand the need for children to play highly competitive sports.
Of course, it’s easier to think like that when your team loses most of the time. I’ve coached and played on winning teams and losing ones and the former are always the most enjoyable.
God, but I hate those middle of the night questions running in my head. I feel so vulnerable at 3am. Sometimes I turn on the radio real low for an hour or so, to drown them out.
I can totally relate to “It’s not wise to lie in bed at night asking yourself questions that you can’t answer.” I have an anxiety disorder and even with medication and mindfulness awareness, I still can get so anxious at night.
Yeah, I remember my daughter loved softball right until the age that the players began to take it really seriously. Nobody on the field was having fun any more.
When those kind of questions come in the middle of the night, sometimes it works to tell myself “ I can’t solve this now, I can think about it in the morning”.

Oh, no. It’s those last two question which lead adults to start issuing “participation trophies” to make kids feel better.

So, you be easier to control as an adult, what we now call a snowflake. It’s worked.

Maybe this is why his baseball team never wins…

Don’t worry CB , by the time you’re an adult, every child will get a trophy for “participation” !

Wonder what Chuck would think about the recent “everybody gets a trophy” ideology.

And yet CB longs to win at the highly organized game of baseball.
tripwire45 about 4 years ago
Agreed. Way back in the day, my friends and I would organize baseball games after school, play in the street, and have a great time.
