I had trifocals for awhile, but deciding where to look was giving me a headache so I gave them up and just got another pair of glasses with the “tri” prescription which is what I wear at the computer… like now.
Progressives are better, but you can end up with a kink in your neck and forget about trying to see something up close that is above your head.
I had a hard time adapting, as a millwright I was pretty good at judging what size of wrench I needed.. before I had progressives. After that, depending on how much I tilted my head the size changes.
I always recommend cataracts, I got them in my early 50’s and had the surgery, I was using progressives. Now I have 20-20 distance vision and use cheapo readers from Costco, I have them next to the sofa, in my car etc… Now when I break them, I just grab one of my other pairs.

Madam there reminds me of Mrs. Meggs in Ginger Meggs: yellow dress with red polka-dots. (Is there such thing as quad-focals?)

My father was a mechanic. He needed tri-focals so he could look up at things while working on a car. So why else would they be needed?

The last time I saw people wearing bifocals that had that visible line in the center, the frames were enormous plastic rectangles.

Trifocals went out with high-button shoes. It’s progressives now.

I got LASIK five years ago and had one eye trimmed for close vision, worth it. As I sit in front of my two monitors, I can see the pixels.

My folks were older when they had me. After my father got Trifocals, you should have seen the look of terror in his face when we were playing catch.

I wear progressives and have to take them off when looking sideways at something cause I can’t focus.

I had cataracts out. Now I’m far-sighted instead of near-sighted and have to get used to only needing reading glasses.

And by the time you get used to the trifocals, you get your cataracts out and have to get used to only needing reading glasses.

I started wearing bifocals at age 12. I am now (almost) 64. I have transitioned to progressives since then. :o)
