Spud showed up, but the electricity didn’t…

Those bells look an awfully lot like Snoopy heads.

Well, that was illuminating.

Do we want to imagine who pulled the plug?

Spud’s despairing realization.

Panels 2 and 3 are strongly reminiscent of the look on Anne Bancroft’s face when she realizes she’s blowing the audition but doesn’t know how or why.

Well, it was in a comedy skit, actually. She sees the critical looks from the judges as she sings from the music sheet they’ve handed her. She doesn’t get that she’s mispronouncing words.

“You say toh-may-toh and I say toh-may-toh….”

Such showmanship. Too bad it flopped. Bummer.

Guess Amelia didn’t believe in Spud’s own ability to muck things up..!

Even the Rockefeller Center tree gets tested before the big show.

He did such a good job, poor Spud. In the words of Han Solo – “It’s not my fault”.

Fire dept. messed up—-oy vay—-

Maybe the fire dept. didn’t pay its electric bill.

At age 10, I was the only child in the play. Opening night, third scene, I was alone on stage. On my spot, a little nervous, in my costume fragment. The music is playing, waiting for the moment, I opened my mouth to sing, and… The power went out. COULD NOT SEE A THING! Waiting. Getting cold. Finally I heard Director Liz whisper, “Tommy, this way!”

The Year Without Christmas. Lights.

Well, Spud did his part. Did anyone not see this coming? Or what is to come still? Will Spud save Christmas? Or go down in infamy as the person who killed it?

The Charlie Brown Christmas special didn’t end that way…
