I worked with a guy that did that every year. He’d attach a cement block to the tree and set it out on the ice on his lake. In spring, it would sink and make excellent structure for the fish. He know the right spot to catch his limit.
They do that on a large scale in lake Havasu down on the Ca/Az border.
He was actually an environmentalist and ahead of his time. (See Joeatwork212’s comment)
