Actually, getting the weather forecast over the phone is something that old people grew up doing, even when phones still had rotary dials. They checked the time that way, too. Caulfieldâs generational ignorance is showing.
As I get older, Iâm more the look out the window and read the thermometer type than firing up the phone/computer/tablet for info. Iâm retired â if the weather rots, I donât have to go out in it anymore.
A lot of us old people donât watch TV due to the insane number of idiotic commercials shown. In the 50s, there was ONE commercial break of 2 or 3 30 second commercials in a half hour show. And they werenât obnoxious. What is it now, every 6 minutes?
Caufield is a bit narrow minded. The weather channel is a TV network with weather related programs. Itâs not just a forecast scroll. I donât watch it, though I have occasionally been sucked into a program while channel surfing.
When I was a young people I used to watch the Weather Channelâs âLocal on the 8sâ segment just for the music. That and Hey Arnold turned little me into a smooth jazz fan growing up.
The Weather Channel has become useless. Hard to get local weather between their shows on cold weather truckers and the earth is dying bs. And would someone pleeeease remove that condescending blathering blond bimbo from the morning show. I just cant watch it anymore.
I find that radio is a more reliable source of weather reports. Of course, here in The City we have two nominally all-news stations that generally give both weather and traffic reports every 10 minutes, and a third that gives them every 15 minutes.
But given that I spend hours a day in front of my laptop, it makes as much sense to keep a browser tab open to AccuWeather or, better still, the National Weather Service.

Astoundingly enough, a noticeable percentage of US denizens have no cell phones at all.
