If Caulfield is a little Dicken’s he would probably be a member of Fagin’s gang.

Does Caulfield have anything LIKE that level of concern for the lower classes and forgotten people?

Teachers may say that Dickens was one of the all time greats, but I never voluntarily read anything he wrote. And I’ve read a LOT of the last 5 decades.

The problem for Caulfield is he is brilliant in English lit among many things but there are few jobs for things you love and enjoy. Sighs.

Caulfield would be best as a McGyver if such a job existed.

Sometimes it is in the eye of the beholder – you have to have a LOT of confidence to interpret “oh you little Dickens!” as “well she thinks I’m a young Charles!”

Seriously – until I looked this up, I always thought ‘dickens’ meant a certain type of impish child in a Dickens novel. Oops.
