What would you choose? Burn or freeze?

Cats are so helpful. They can also monitor the carrying of water from room to room! …from directly underfoot, of course.

Hang blankets up in the doorways. Got enough canned goods? How about a generator? Have you got one of those hand-cranked AM/FM/Shortwave/weather band radios with a flashlight and battery charging capability and all that?

That afghan! I wonder if someone made that for Georgia! Back in the late 70s my mother made one for me just like it – avocado green, brown and orange. It’s a fright but I love it.

There’s a family legend about my sister kicking the blankets off when she was a small baby during a very cold night, and our parents woke to find their cats (I think it was three of them, all ’Mesers) in her crib sleeping on either side of her and one wrapped around the top of her head.♥

I’m not sure about Elvis on top of the Girl. I had a Siamese, and when he decided to sleep on my chest, I could barely breathe. And I was an adult.

Elvis has got his priorities straight and is taking charge of the situation as the People try to get organized. Elvis is a take charge kind of at and has rightfully determined that the welfare of the children come first!

I wish Loaner Cat would sleep with us. She just won’t. She’ll come in the room, look around wistfully, meow a couple times and leave. I’ve put her on the bed and she flees. I’ve made stairs for her (our bed is quite high) tempted her with her favorite treats…nothing. She can’t wait for me to sit down in the morning with my coffee, she’s all over me. But sleep with us? Nope sigh

    Hi Georgia,

You have an uncanny knack for picking and drawing about topics weeks before they become reality. The power outage during a cold-snap is the latest example.

Of course I’m not saying you have a Time-Turner, although I believe you would make an excellent Witch. But, if Star Trek has taught us anything, its that some beings have temporal abilities. So, if you happen to draw a strip where Elvis tells us who wins the PGA Master’s championship or Goldie meows out who wins the Kentucky Derby in 2021 before the race is ran…I’m just thinking we could make a little money.

    Cheers!

Interesting that the man’s first thought is to save the computer and TV from a possible power surge while the woman’s first concern is making sure the children are warm. A power surge after an outage last fall fried my DVR even though it was plugged into a surge protector.

Get an alternate power source brick for the electronics. They keep power from surging and offer enough to give you time to cut computers off safely. Most for homes run from $60 up so they are worth the money.

Fill the bathtub with water. Many areas use water pumps which need power to operate. Drain water from pipes where possible.

Shout out to @Bill Jackson: Are you safe? Are you warm? Do you have power? Did that broken tooth ever get fixed? Folks worry when you don’t report in for 2 whole weeks. Sending warm thoughts your way.

They are lucky to have a fireplace. All the heat in my house comes from electricity. When my power went out, I bought a couple of propane heaters, but everyone had already sold out of propane!

Times like these the cats crawl between the blanket and the comforter. Drift off to sleep with purrs.
