Much truth here – just a couple of weeks ago, my mom received a Christmas card her cousin mailed back in December. It had to travel about 70 miles within the same state. I’m guessing it made a whirlwind national tour along the way.
Am reading How the Post Office Created America. From Chapter 2, p. 39: “In the end, the [Post Office] act embraced the Platonic ideal of a post that if not profitable should at least be self-supporting—a fateful decision that marked it as the rare federal agency that was expected to sustain itself on its revenue.”
This was the basis on which the republicans insisted that the P.O. have in its coffers 75 years’ worth of retiree benefits—well, this and their ever-present salivating at privatizing every public service in this country.
Very interesting book. . .p. 33: “Lest [the act’s ] ratification be jeopardized, the Constitution’s framers preferred to keep things simple and left many postal particulars up in the air, presumably to be settled at a later, ideally less fraught time.” Doesn’t that last phrase make you laugh out loud?
I’m wondering if I have a legal right not to pay a ‘late charge’ on my bills that I mail in on time but are late in being delivered. This idea of privatizing everything only benefits the rich and destroys the idea of the ‘commons’. This country has been taken over by a minority of people who have too much money that can buy influence.
I finally got a family member to set up electronic payments for her credit card when she was hit with a late charge because she believed her account would be hacked. About three months ago she did not get that month’s statement in the mail and was finally convinced that my experience of ePayments overrode DeJoy’s sabotage.
My experience in December was not receiving the previous two issues of a magazine. I called subscription service and the woman said that they would mail the missing issues immediately. I thought that there would be some pushback or questions, but decided anyway to ask why this had occurred because delivery had always been reliable.
She apparently had been trained to diplomatically respond to the expected question. She answered that the company did not know why but that that they had been receiving “many many” complaints since October. I would bet that the CEO and Board knows the answer.
I got two xmas card post marked around dec 8 in early feb. even better in late feb i got a small parcel from toronto with a post mark of october. The local letter carrier’s gotten so bad the other day i had someone else’s mail, wrong street name and only 3 of 4 digits in the house number right. I walked over to deliver it-just around the corner, and he was going out the door to return someone else’s misdilevered mail that was on his doorstop.
The reason we still have USPS is because it’s a subsidized method for businesses to flood our homes with marketing materials. We are paying for businesses to advertise to us.

Anyone realize that de-joy means to remove the joy from something?

The theme that somehow the Democrats are different from the GOP is the only thing that keeps this comic amusing

republiCONs have trying to get rid of the USPS for decades. They just can’t stand that a unionized government service is popular with the public.
Why do they hate the Constitution?

This past month I’ve received 3 Christmas cards, a postcard mailed in Sept., and several other pieces of mail that were sent in December.
