yesterday, the beagle scout he has a map and a compass… don’t tell me he hasn’t earned the orienteering merit badge

Never lost, a mite bewildered at times but all roads lead to home sooner or later.

All roads get you where your going. But not always where you want to go.

Just don’t light a Signal Fire in California. Someone did that near San Diego once and started the Paradise Fire a few years back.

Hmmm. I wonder if he’ll panic…

Just remember that the moon is always over Hollywood.

As t hey told us in survival school. Walk downhill until you find a stream, walk with the current. Eventually you will find people. People tend to settle near a source of water.

If nothing else, it will keep you from wandering around in circles. Yes, that does happen.

Another trick they taught us was, if you had to walk a certain compass direction and there are more than one of you, send a person out in front and use you compass to tell them where to stand, and then walk to them. Otherwise all trees look the same so pick someone who doesn’t look like a tree.

You can tell the difference between then and now…today, Snoopy would have something that would have a GPS app in it…

Near us last year someone had to be rescued because they lost their cell phone signal (guess what, sometimes in the National Forest there is no signal) and they couldn’t follow the trail they were standing on without it.

Don’t worry, Snoopy. A beagle scout is always prepared. Did you bring food, water, a map and a compass?

Time to pull out your iphone

He can tell a bird to go find Woodstock to come and lead the way out.

In a later strip Snoopy tells his Beagle Scouts that Hollywood is in the west and the moon is always over Hollywood, so that’s how you know which way you’re going . . .

And so, this was the very last appearance of Snoopy for the rest of the strip’s run.

not “lost” … momentarily disoriented (something I learned in scouting)

Never, ever will I understand the appeal of hiking.

It’s like what I say about “The Blair Witch Project.” Find a small brook and follow it; sooner or later it will lead you out of the woods.
