People who say that are defeatist. They assume the US is as good as it is going to get. We are not perfect and if you are honest with yourself you know that. We strive for the American dream of life, liberty and the persuit of happiness and the dream that anyone can achieve that dream. The reason we strive is because we are not there. We treat other countries with contempt. We look at other people with contempt. We are always looking for someone else to blame for our lot in life because we know we have not achieved our dream. But in order not to rock the boat, not to admit we are not perfect and need to do better we tell people if you don’t like it here leave. We all have an obligation to society to work to make it better right here in the country we were born to and fought and died for and no one including the Wilsons is going to tell me not to work for a better world and just accept what we have or leave.
I wish all the … er, “folks” who SAY they love America but don’t subscribe to any of its basic tenets would leave it, but then I’d hate for them to screw up some other country either.
It isn’t clear if Ziggy is outside the United States looking toward the United States, or inside the United States looking out. A lot of States have their border signs saying something like “You are entering [name of state]” on one side and “You are leaving [name of state]” on the other. Or, “Welcome to” instead of “You are entering”.
But please remember that just because we love it, doesn’t mean it’s perfect. And just because someone doesn’t agree with one aspect or another, doesn’t mean they hate our Country. It just means they care enough about “We The People” to call attention to point out an inequity when they see it. Freedom is not free; it comes with the responsibility to ensure it keeps working – for ALL of us.

This is my country – land that I love …
This land is your land, and my land, and was made for you and me.
God bless America – land that I love – my home sweet home.

That must be the Mexican border, as the other one is still closed.

To those of us born here, America isn’t perfect and never will be. But to so many others, it’s worth risking your life to get here.

Leave it. You’d be better off in Canada, but we don’t want you.

There’s no Constitutional requirement to love it. You are entitled to the same rights either way. That’s what makes it America.
