So many scornful putdowns! It’s not a cliche romance novel cover, or an ad copying others’ versions of manufactured modern American male fantasy. It’s an artist’s view of interesting colors and shapes of body, clothing, and furniture, and the play of light. As it happens, the model looks to me to be rosy, healthy, thoughtful, liberated, and comfortable. She had no need to be made “attractive” to you lot by means of face paint, whalebone, virtual footbinding, curling iron, etc. in this context. I know we like to joke around, speculating on the motivation for these paintings, but this isn’t one of the grotesque ones.
