I don’t see the scions of the One Percent huddling together in fear and misery, being shot to pieces, or coming home in boxes. Must be why the Republikkklans are in favor of leaving the troops as they are.
Mountain of Bullpuckey apparently does not know this (from Wikipedia):
Danziger served in the United States Army from 1967 until 1971. An intelligence officer and linguist during the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal in 1970.
I suspect Danziger understands the situation better than Bullpuckey.
The unnecessary war, Iraq, which HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN, is where the majority of soldiers and marines were killed and maimed! Twenty years is more than enough. I speak as someone whose husband lost 29 office-mates at the PENTAGON on 9/11. My sons would have lost their father had he not been at a meeting in Crystal City, an office building with satellite offices for the Navy. As it is, they lost him to PTSD, which caused him (in part) to abandon us a year later, when he retired after 21 years of service. They had unusual Navy childhood, with multiple moves… 8, for me, 7 for Alex, and 6 for Justin. Many Navy families can spend the majority of their time in one area, but not us! We were even in Philadelphia, let alone over seas, in and out of Va. Beach and Newport RI. The BEST was Monterey, CA. Justin was born there, and I was born there. Both dads were students at the Naval Postgraduate School. I also had a great job while we were there, unusual.
when we have a repubilCON president we have to deal will the devastating for another 20 years, hopefully we can get over benito tRUMPolinis destruction in only 20 years
Afghanistan is a “created” country, by maps set forth by others………..usually Europeans, sometimes by fellow Asians. (Of course, “Asia” is a “created” continent……….) Ask people who have the misfortune to live in the Mideast about “created” maps sometimes. (Also, ask the people who have the misfortune to live in North and South America………….) I don’t have a “point” here (unless it is to annoy some of my fellow commenters), but that’s how I feel. Please forgive me for it, and now I have to exterminate a few extinct species (which is surprisingly easy!)
Since 2011, we have had 1,007 soldiers killed in Afghanistan – in a frigging war zone fighting against suicidal terrorists. In the last two years in Chicago alone there have been 1,272 murders.
When will we declare Chicago a mass murder site? Or better yet, a war zone?
If you’re going to worry about lives lost – you shouldn’t go to war in the first place.
Our initial incursion into Afghanistan was supposedly a “surgical” strike against the group that attacked us on 9/11 – it failed because of inferior intelligence.
The people on the ground found out where Bin Laden really was, but by the time they got “permission” to pursue Al Qaeda from their handlers in the Pentagon, Benny L. had escaped into Pakistan – who were our “allies”, so we weren’t allowed to follow!
And, by the by, that’s also where the Taliban hides out between attacks on Kabul and other Afghan sites – where we can’t touch them!
Does anyone remember the hate and discontent we stirred up when we finally built up the nerve to launch an incursion into Pakistan to take out Osama Bin Laden? It was massive! Fuel supplies for our troops was almost reduced to zero for a while!
The Taliban will wait until we leave before taking back the country – and if we don’t leave (as Trump promised the Taliban?) Why, they’ll use the fact that America lied about leaving to relaunch attacks all across the country! The big mouth of the “Orange Menace” has left us with a lose-lose scenario!
We should have left when Obama was first elected President. We had a good excuse then, a whole new administration with different priorities. Instead, Obama allowed the military to talk him into even more troops, and money, and equipment. It has all been a big waste, except to defense contractors.
During the war in Afghanistan (2001–present), over 31,000 civilian deaths due to war-related violence have been documented; 29,900 civilians have been wounded. Over 111,000 Afghans, including civilians, soldiers and militants, are estimated to have been killed in the conflict.

What’s the fun in having a bloated military if you can’t (ab)use it?

I haven’t forgotten how stupid our governments can be.
We could have voted our way out of it but govt propaganda convinced the majority otherwise.

If you can forget 55,000 then 2300 should be no problem.

I think not only should the U.S. pull out of Afghanistan, but for once concentrate on solving some of AMERICA’s problems for a change!

We haven’t entirely forgotten about Viet Nam, which, in our looming face-off with China, will probably be our ally.
