A cup of nearly boiling water will work just as well and it won’t do anything unpleasant to the environment.

For years I had a morning glory that would put that grass to shame. Rooted in asphalt and climbing my gate, every year it would die back and I’d figure "that’s the end of that. And the next spring, it’d prove me wrong. Over the years, it survived having all its seeds harvested (I wanted to try and start some more of it elsewhere), repaving, and cats with overactive bladders.

Not even sure what finally did it in.

weed killer, another dead spot in the soil. Stopped using them years ago. Yard didn’t suffer. Now anything that has a bloom gets a bye until the bloom fades. Planted clover in large areas last fall. Those plots look better than ever. Also get more bees and butterflies. It’s all good.

I am a firm believer in replacing lawns with native vegetation and ground cover.

One should not let children handle poison. That scene in The Godfather bothered me more than anything else.

This is a job for Roundup, old man. Weed killer wont touch grass. Where you been the past 60 years?!? Jeez.

give the kid a weeding tool and let him have at it – you can keep him busy all summer long because he’ll never get that last bit of root…

I allow the weeds to grow and just mow them down. I read that grass has very little nutrient value, where weeds are full of nutrients for the soil.

I find it annoying that stuff grows better in the cracks in my sidewalk than it does in my lawn

My doctor told me to use duct tape on a wart on my toe (sorry for TMI).

I’ve been mulling over trying liquid nitrogen, to instanly freeze them. Of course I don’t know where to get it, or if I can afford it….BUT it did stop the Termiator.

When I was a boy, sometime back in the middle of the last century of the last millennium, a young friend’s pet turtle “died.” He was devastated, and we decided we’d give the little thing a proper funeral. We made a casket out of a matchbox, placed the departed amphibian in it, dug a grave in his back yard, and we all gathered around and sang “Amazing Grace.” The proceedings were interrupted by a scratching sound. My friend picked up the box, slid it open, and the little turtle poked his head up and looked around curiously. And my friend looked at all of us, his face tear streaked, in a shaky voice asked, “Do we have to kill it now?”

Or simply pull it out with the roots.

Way to go Earl, great life lesson for the kid. Don’t want him to grow up thinking he can overcome adversity.

Reminds me of what my dad did in bright ideas. House has a front porch with cement to walk on, the decided to move the cement, which broke, now grass and weeds as stickers made it through the cracks.

I don’t know why that makes me sad!
