As a former HS and college umpire I can tell you they don’t wear their hats backwards or wrist watches (for fear of getting them broken by foul tip).At least Whigham doesn’t have this one using an outside (“Solid State”) chest protector.
P1, I assume that Kaz and whoever this old dude is, maybe the other team’s coach, are exchanging lineup cards since Gil once again can’t be bothered to show up on time. But why is the other coach wearing Milford’s colors? And I thought Gonzo was Milford’s star relief pitcher. They must be using him as the opener. And Marty says, “Hey, bring me that opener!”
P2, That’s what I was asking. What the hell were you on?
P3, Okay so Madison has green and black uniforms but their coach likes Milford’s colors better. Makes perfect sense with the way this strip has been going lately. And um, where’s the batter? Somebody should let him know he just struck out.
In all reality , Abe Brito overhears Zanie telling Gil telling Gil " I’m on it " and overreacts thinking it’s his daughter Zanie is referring to. Abe grabs a bat and uses it on Zanie .
P1- Jack Klugman makes a cameo as Oscar Madison, Coach of Madison HS.
P3- That’s a cheap backstop at Madison. In order to be a Valley Conference member, one is required to have holes in their ballpark fence. Alas, a new meaning of don’t fence me in.
To prove how focused he is on his new outfield slot, Zane is still out there instead of taking his turn at bat. No one has noticed the Milford player in the outfield, since all uniforms are interchangeable from panel to panel.
all the comments in recent weeks about not any continuity from day to day or even panel to panel and strange colors of characters, which also change at intervals are telling me one thing. The strip was better(which isn’t saying much) when it was in B&W.
Please GoComics, bring back black and white comics. Because y’all really suck at coloring. My 4yo grandson could do a better job than you guys.
Unless Marty Moon-the radio play by play guy has taken on an extra job as colorist.(he thought he was going to get a new gig as the color commentator with someone else doing the play by play. Instead he was given a couple of weeks of Gil Thorp strips along with a box of crayons and told to color the strips. Which he did after first drinking a couple of gal of dollar store after shave because the radio station decided to dump sports; IOW the station fired MM in favor of a podcast, starring said PA announcer)
Gil and Kaz are the only coaches in the Valley with hair product endorsements. They never wear caps, to showcase the coifs. Bulova Blue should tell them to get in full uniform, or he was going to make them coach from the press box with Moon.
Either we’ve got a new actor playing the part of Gil today, and he’s an extremely poor choice for resembling him, or the Madison coach for some reason nabbed one of Milford’s uniforms.
And speaking of nabbing, nab some chuckles from Mopped Up Thorp by going here: https://moppedupthorp.wordpress.com/
I guess the obvious conclusion (despite there being no evidence as to who’s up to bat), is that Zane just watched strike 3 because he still can’t concentrate because of his argument with his girlfriend. That was probably a week ago. Because nobody ever strikes out when they’re focused.
Here’s today’s puzzle: With both teams wearing the same uniform and with a invisible batter, which team is up. They didn’t tell us if it was the top or bottom of the inning. Maybe because the batter struck out, Zane feels he let the team down for not catching the …pitch?

Hard to get a hit when you aren’t even in the batter’s box. I believe the ump is doing the frug. Nice moves.

P1 – Madison coach has black and red uniform (similar to Milford and Kaz).
P3 – Madison catcher wearing green and black.
So much for continuity.

Reminds me of another player who moved from pitcher to RF — Babe Ruth. What will Zane wear to his Library Board appearance?

If Zane’s the batter in P3, it still appears they don’t have his full attention as he’s nowhere to be found.

P3: Those are some very low lying clouds. No wonder Zane’s in a fog.

Zane can’t pitch, hit, or field, but Gil has made him a key player anyway. Great job coach!
