Maybe Frank thinks life wouldn’t have been worth living. Notice Frank didn’t say anything. Luann assumed what he was thinking. Happy Father’s Day to all of you dads.
I guess Frank was rather “frank” with Luann. I would have thought Frank would have went with the “little white lie” about how he would never change a thing. I had a professor in college for a literature class who told a fellow student: “There is no such thing as a stupid question! On the other hand I can not say the same about individuals who present certain inquiries.” Ouch…. Let it be a learning lesson Luann.
Neither our father (who we lost in 1959) nor our late step Dad, who raised another man’s children with love, would have said they regretted ‘giving up’ the chance to be a rock star by becoming a father. It’s a legitimate question that a kid might wonder about, from time to time, if they’ve ever seen pictures of their parents as kids, or read letters their parents wrote about things they wanted to do. So why does this particular kid have to ‘learn a lesson’ about what not to ask?
Ah, because it’s Luann. I see. If Tiffany or Bets, or, for that matter, Brad, had asked this question, it would be just fine…
Why does this comic seem to imply that you have to give up having children to become a rock star, astronaut, or the president? I can name lots of rock stars who had children. The king Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson for two. A lot of presidents had children too. Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, and George Bush Senior. Why … even the QUEEN of England who is constantly at work, managed to deliver 4 children!
When you reach a certain age, even those of us who have been musicians know that we would never have a wealthy jet-setting rock star anyway. And probably would have hated the “jet-setting” part of it.
I was already in my mid 30’s when the fatherhood thing happened. Too late for the rock star bit. Plus I can’t sing and never learned to play the guitar.
Could have done a lot of things in my life to Frank but I have faced the Black abyss of losing self and family and being a dad, for better or worse, was part of my salvation. Of course, Lord, why not both? Oh well you know better. I know hokey, but it’s me. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all!
Does Frank even have any interest in music? We’ve never seen him play any instrument or sing. He could not be a rock star if he has no musical ability.
As a father, Frank is a father 24/7. Owning a house is a daily struggle to maintain the estate. Something is always breaking down, or needs an upgrade.

For those wondering why today’s strip seems so familiar:

Not that females are lauded in this strip, but males are not really presented in a positive light.

Luann asked a similar question to Nancy on Mother’s Day. I think Luann is older and smarter than this.

Now see what you did there, Luann – you alerted him to the human condition. He was just fine 30 seconds ago.
