Mrs. Olsen has nailed the human weakness: acknowledging a previously ignored but unhappy truth while making little or no progress in correcting the decades of damages.
She’s never run a marathon; but she has a classic sprint to her credit from a couple years ago. I’ll leave it to someone else to post the date(s) and the length of time for that arc.
You know, they could have called it “Emancipation Day” and everybody would know what it was about rather than making up a nonsense word like a three year old.
8/4/76, 3:30 a.m. had my last smoke. Was working third shift in a grocery store and we were on our “lunch” break. Wanted one more, but was too lazy to go up front and grab another pack. Two nights later a bunch of us went bowling then played cards till about 1 a.m. Survived that, so I know I could make it. Mind over matter. Ya gotta wanna quit if you’re really sincere about it, otherwise you’re just blowing smoke.P.S.: I’ve never run a 5K either, but I’m 69 and can still get around on my bicycle and still get in and out of my kayak without help. Congrats to all of us reformed nonsmokers, though our doctors still list us a “former smokers.” Annoys the hell out of me. Forty-plus years later and I still have that tag.
What I find interesting is which is the greater atrocity the slaughter of the American indians or the enslavement of Africans (and other races). We continue to to have these token holidays, but continue with our racism under the guise of free speech.
Instead of Juneteenth, shouldn’t we recognize the date the 13th Amendment was ratified? That was the real date America finally overturned the evil of slavery, even if people weren’t notified of it until later.

Lets not rest on our laurels. Particularly lately. And in the presence of pernicious political (wannabe) potentates.

I remember that day, too…1/24/88. I even remember why I quit.

and yet high society people of a certain group complain that we’ve made no progress, even though they themselves are quite successful.

Shouldn’t Lincolns birthday also be a Federal holiday? Just more liberalism attack.

Maybe we could remember the 360,222 Union soldiers that died in the war that freed those slaves.

I heared walking/hiking is better for the body than jogging. Less stress on the bones.
