Interesting. I don’t think we’ve ever seen the dittos fail to protect Wally and company. Is it because relatively few of them came through the portal with Wally, etc., or is it because these mutations are more powerful than the dittos?
Regardless, it looks like it’s time for Plan B. … RUN!
I’m not sure if it’s the dittos failing as much as the fact that there’s a lot we don’t know about the dittos. Remember, they’re part of the technology of the Lucranian traders, who are very much well versed in traveling across the multiverse. The point being, given that the monsters are a weird amalgam of realities, they may actually have some sort of strange affinity with the dittos. Then there was the time when Marx was introducing us to the dittos on the first ship and used a pair of scissors of some sort to snip them and collect them into a ball. Then there is also the odd way that the dittos manifest themselves when confronting strangers, where they take on a monstrous sort of visage themselves with many eyes and teeth meant to get an emotional rise out of their victims. And the fact the the ship’s computer referred to them as having escaped and gone feral, and thus were likely to be dangerous. So Wally, who I am not sure has ever used the dittos against monsters, may be running into an issue he didn’t expect here.
It seems that perhaps “dark” i.e. frral, dittos flowed in from behind Wally? Maybe he can train those to respond to his wishes? But, at the moment ….RUN!
The dittos were pretty well spent cleaning and defending the tower. I think Wally has gone to that well a few too many times. (That last scene reminds of the start screen to Black Ops Cold War when you mark the Zombies line….big sharp pointy teeth!)
Remember that “Eye” has already demonstrated that it can control the dittos. It has needed Wally to be unconcious for this before because it usually lives in the space between realities. But “It” is manifesting here, and may be inside those creatures. Maybe that’s why they can disable the dittos. Maybe Black or grey dittos have been turned off…display has gone dark.
Okay, after two days looking at this, it looks to me like the dittos actually put a barrier up between Wally and party and the monsters, but the monster seems to be tearing through the ditto barrier with its claws. Any thoughts?
Two thoughts - first, when the Dittos appeared at Wally’s command, they weren’t behaving (or appearing) as he expected… hence, his broken-off exclamation, staring at them, "Wh—". The second is that all they need is a Zero pistol, assuming any of them can use it, and it’s not security-locked to Human Topsiders in suits. We noticed that the control console would no longer respond to the Doctor’s touch once the anthro change had occurred. A single Zero pistol would instantly clear the decks of these creatures, zapping them all into white dust.

Why in the last panel in my Head does Wally sound like David Tennant when he says “Okay…Never Mind……Everybody RUN!”

That monster looks like something out of the Edge Chronicles, like a Chris Riddell monster.
