They seem all so nice about it – like it’s no big deal – like “it’s for science” so it’s “all good”, it’s all okay . But abducting people is wrong – abducting means it’s against their will. And for them to decide – judge – who or what is important is wrong.
Reminds me of the movie “Freejack.” Rich people pay time travelers to abduct people who are about to die in accidents in the present so the rich can use their bodies as replacements when they get too old or sick. No one searches for the dead.
That seems to be a self-fulfilling mission (not exactly a “prophecy”), since folks who haven’t yet done anything important still might, if they weren’t abducted before they had the chance.
The future eh, what have we (residents of the earth past and present) done that they (future residents) need a space type (hazmat?) suit and a breathing apparatus? Scary…
Reminds me of a Star Trek TOS episode: Tomorrow Is Yesterday. Enterprise accidentally goes back in time. They have to beam Captain Christopher, a US Air Force pilot, aboard. Kirk wants him to remain aboard the Enterprise, out of concern this experience will cause Christopher to change the future. Christopher objects, saying his disappearance will change the future. Spock uses the history database to find Captain Christopher had no significant role in history. But, Spock realizes he made a mistake: He again uses the history database to find Christopher’s son, not yet begotten, will lead an important mission.
Abducting especially brilliant or remarkably dumb people leaves more of a wrinkle in the time/space continuum. So, yeah, dull and normal people are better abductees. It’s easier to smooth that out.
This is why extraterrestrials depend on karma scanning devices to check all their targets ahead of time.
