And let’s all remember – Labor Day isn’t just about a break from your labors; it is meant to honor the men and women who fought and died (yes, died; unionism in the US has usually been met with violence, both corporate & governmental – which are far too often indistinguishable) to give you 8 hour days, 40 hour weeks, paid sick leave, paid medical insurance, paid vacation, pensions, child-labor laws, safe-workplace laws…..I could go on and on.
So celebrate it in such a way as to further their struggle: If you work for an hourly wage, ORGANIZE!!! Join a union today; you’ll be glad you did!
Whether you work for an hourly wage or not, write, e-mail, telegraph, and/call your elected representatives and demand that they support Labor with legislation: Strike down all right-to-work-for-less laws, ban scabs (the scum that the ownership class likes to euphemize as “replacement workers”), at least allow for – and preferably require – closed shops, protect pensions, enact single-payer health insurance……again, I could go on and on.
And remember: “Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.” – Abraham Lincoln
School here has been back in session for a few weeks already. But thanks to unvaccinated parents, anti-mask parents, and a gutless Governor who says parents can opt out of local mandates, several schools are experiencing a lot of infections and already have had to revert to online learning.
Hurray, we finally left Afghanistan after spending 20 wasted years there. Between 1839 and 1919 the British tried 3 times to make Afghanistans support them not Russia.

I’m with her. I read this article explaining how all the parts fit together, found it very clear, even learned something about T cells.

The kid paints a very evocative word picture, especially the Cape Horn reference. Reading her book reports and essays should be a treat,

No, the Afghans didn’t support Russia, either.
