He has millions of SERIOUSLY COMMITTED partisan voters. And about $100 M that he’s extracted from the gullible folks mentioned above that he can throw around in the midterm elections.
The only threat the GOP politician faces is loss of a job where he can be self-indulgent and enriched. Obviously, the majority of GOP politicians who speak loudest, integrity means little or nothing.
If elephants are supposedly afraid of little four-legged mice, they would naturally be terrified of a big two-legged rat. (I get the mental image of Trump as a Big Daddy Roth Rat Fink driving an insanely souped-up Golf Cart.)
There used to be some integrity in the Qpublican party. Even during the time when Goldwater, a conservative, captured the ‘64 presidential nomination, the party worked with the Dems to pass bipartisan legislation. The fear mongering, the efforts to divide the nation into ’us’ and ‘them’ started back in the late ’80s and has led to the situations we now have in the U.S.
I don’t think that they have that much to be afraid of. More republicans hate Trump than like him and time will bear that out. In the mean time, the dems had better use this time of republican turmoil more productively than they are.
The psychotic republican liars have put themselves in the thrall of an insane racist bully. Not even republicans would vote for Trump the last time, that’s why he lost, that’s why they keep having audits, they are putting the names of republicans who did not vote for the orange fascist on their watch list.
So go ahead and run anti democracy Trump the covid spreader again and lose by a bigger margin. Republicans never learn from their mistakes, they double down on their vicious stupidity.
The reason more republicans than ever support Trump in the polls is because the party is getting smaller and only the hard core jerks are left.
They aren’t afraid of Trump, they are afraid of his boss, Putin.
However, there are signs that Putin may have decided Trump is no longer the useful tool to him that he used to be. Putin has been happy to use Trump, and his narcissism made Trump easy to use, but Putin has long despised people like Trump and his family. So, it would figure that Putin might tire of them eventually.

It isn’t Trump so much as it is Trump’s fan base. The GOP must have those votes, and will do whatever necessary to get them.
