And just whom might I just add – will be taking Sir Brutus out to wine and dine Mother G.? He does his best and remains faithful above all else. Family is spice of life to Brutus.
Let’s see…last night it was leftover casserole. How did she “work hard every day” making that? Even before it was a leftover, it was only a casserole!!!
Brutus ain’t the cheapskate, that’s the boss man’s job. Brutus is in the low wage category while feeding and housing four and a dog. Gladys will be lucky if she gets taken out once a week. Although, when considering Gladys’ cooking, maybe taking the family out for dinner might be the best way to avoid upset stomach and a possible case of ptomaine poisoning.
Actually, being in the low wage camp all my life, I’ve discovered the joys of eating from canned and/or frozen foods. Why, just this morning, I had a nuked sausage patty over frozen hash brown patty. Yum. Add to that a two cup mug of black coffee with sugar and you have a delicious and low cost meal.
Maybe a gift card to a local restaurant would be a good gift, Ma Gargle. And poor Brutus works hard so that there are groceries in the fridge. If he’s broke, he’s broke. No need to go into debt for a meal out.
Finally, a rational man that doesn’t want to finance his entertainment and dining at 18-20% interest. Bravo my friend, Bravo. However, do take her out when you CAN afford it……
For several years i had a job the required travel every week. So I had to eat out every dinner. When I got home looking for a home cooked meal, my wife says she’s tired of eating at home, we’re going out.
I am trying to picture myself inserting myself into the life of my offspring like that. Just can’t get it. That is no way to treat an adult. If grandma there wants her baby girl to have meals out, she can offer them a gift card or just take them all out. Otherwise, butt out! (Of course, if she did, there goes the comic, right?)

Amen, brother! Last dinner out was McD’s. For the money I expected candles on the table.

Just do what everyone does – charge it!! and worry about it later!! And if you don’t have a credit card, “communal” dishwashing is not so bad!!

It does not take a lot to eat out. Pack a lunch and go out to the park.

How about you treating your daughter and her husband out for dinner? Or are you a cheapskate?
Jeff0811 about 3 years ago
Brutus should get MIL together with Veeblefester and advocate for a raise. If anyone could get money out of a true cheapskate, it would be Ma Gargle.

In panel two Mother Gargle’s hair looks like what happens when Andy Capp’s wife cooks.

Come on, Mother Gargle. You seem to spend a lot of time here eating free food and I don’t see you taking anyone out to dinner.
