In terms of training and conditioning, dogs (and most mammals) actually learn better with “sometimes” than “always”

I guess that is one reason I never grew up having a dog.

Not usually, but some days for a little while she’s sorry she ever let Earl eat at the table.

That is just as bad when Opal allowed Muffy to sit on the table while they ate supper. Earl asked for the carrots and she moved Muffy’s tail and blew off the cat hair. He left the table. Sounds too close to a cousin’s house with her cats. The place reeked of cat urine. They were allowed to sit on top of the fridge or their never used dining table. I have never gone back since.

Earl seldom has an opportunity to fuss at Opal but he got her good this time.

On the bright side, a dog will never gripe about the porkchops being overdone.

Many years ago, we were at my Mum’s house. We had Scout, our Golden Retriever, with us. Scout was walking patrol around the table. I let my guard down and he swallowed an entire slice of mince pie, I’d just been given, in one go. Open, clutch slice, close, swallow. Gone in the time it takes to say it. That was Thanksgiving 25 years ago, Thought I’d share the memory with you guys.

Great Panda saying: ‘’When the dog is close, keep your eyes on the pie.’’

My sister-in-law left us a beautiful, black-and-tan Australian Shepherd for two weeks. It was an intelligent dog but completely undisciplined. In two week, I trained him up properly and he seemed the better for it. The sister-in-law returned and within five minutes, he had tested her and she had failed by telling him “No, such a bad, bad doggy” while giggling and tickling his belly.

Geezz Earl, yesterday you complained when you were eating in the living room, that Roscoe was “looking at you”. Today it’s at the table. Do you want him to eat outside like an animal ?

My dog trainer said “Let a dog get away with something three times and you have taught him to do it.” I found it works with kids, too.
