Yeah. It’s disappointing when you are thinking of nibbling on those leftovers from a really good meal and they have disappeared. Happened a lot when our sons reached early teens. Nothing was safe . . . H-m-m-m. . . Actually the cat was faster than they were so she was ok. Worried about the Bassett for a while there.
This is not true in our house. I may have a lunch that has some chicken from one meal, a slice of London broil from another and 4 different servings of vegetable each about a tablespoon or two in size.
Leftovers are the first refuge of the thrifty. If you properly prepare food with storage in mind, there is no reason it should not taste as good as the first time it was served. Hashes, soups and fried rice creations are healthy, as well as cheap. You also spend a LOT less time cooking.
The trick to leftovers is to not have any. Throwing it out immediately is better for the environment.. saves wrapping it in plastic and then keeping it cool.
Our trash gets picked up every Tuesday morning, so each Monday I completely clear one shelf in the fridge. Fifth Mondays, I do the freezer. It keeps stuff from trying to escape.
At my house we always have leftovers, and I don’t like to waste food (nor the money and effort behind it). My wife will usually eat leftovers of things she makes, but rarely eats leftovers brought back from restaurants… I always hope that she orders something that I will like, because I know she’ll expect me to eat her leftovers.
After our two boys moved out of the house, my wife had a hard time adjusting her cooking for just the two of us. It took a while but I still don’t mind leftovers.

Did away with capital punishment in the fridge. Nothing gets thrown, everything gets used up.

Apparently we waste about 30% of what we buy.

I’m practiced in cooking for one, or two, and adjust accordingly. But still, what is this “leftovers” of which you speak?

I told my wife that joke and got a bunch of leftovers for dinner for a week or better.
