I see that it’s still the day before the exhibit opens. So… Mr. Bones looks to be the featured villain (Blackjack wouldn’t hurt anyone). He looks a little familiar, but I think he’s someone new. The MC went a little overboard on the ashen complexion, but it’s good intro. (If you heard a French person pronounce “Bonhomme” it sounds more like “buhn-umm,” but English speakers are apt to do all sorts of strange things with French names.)
Apparently, Doubleup and the Ace of Spades have successfully installed themselves in a new office and are back to their old tricks.
If our esteemed detective clashes with just Mr. Bones and Double-Up, we will have to call this particular plotline “Dick Tracy vs. the Grusome Twosome,” in honor of Mr. Karloff.
There’s also the USS Bonhomme Richard, a name used on 3 different naval vessels. One of them suffered a serious fire in July 2020. It was an amphibious assault ship. The fire was so damaging, it would require billions to repair the ship, so it’s being scrapped.
The first vessel by that name was captained by John Paul Jones. He named it after Benjamin Franklin’s Poor Richard’s Almanac, the name meaning “Good Man Richard.”
If this fellow is Quebecois, he may be meant to evoke “le bonhomme Sept-Heurs” a traditional bogeyman who breaks children’s bones if they stay out too late at night. http://folklore.usc.edu/le-bonhomme-sept-heures-the-french-canadian-boogeyman/
Scary guys in todays cartoon for sure . I wonder why Mr. Bones looks familiar ? And the corner drawing of the building is cool also . Great , job by Shelley as usual . Thanks : )
Mr. Bonhomme’s eye in panel two is majorly creepy. I mean like, “I absolutely had to kill him and hide his body under my floorboards and omigod I can still hear his beating heart!” creepy.
1- Apropos of nothing, the congregants at the Tracyville Scientology Temple turn off the lights after evening services in order to better see the aliens who created the human race arrive from deep space – you know – if they decide that tonight’s the night they reveal themselves – you know – finally. Except for ONE member…
2-WHIPPY: Hey Boss – that Travolta guy is here to see you.
3-TRAVOLTA: Hi. Have you heard the good news?
RATFACE: YIKES! You sure look different in person!
TRAVOLTA: Yeah, we all do. You should see Tom Cruise without his makeup. He looks like Vitamin Flintheart on a bad day. And you don’t ever wanna see Vitamin without makeup!
RATFACE: Wait. Vitamin’s a Scientologist?!?
TRAVOLTA: Of course! All the best actors are! Well…and some others…
OH this new guy looks unsetting and seems pleasant at the SAME TIME! It’s like that anime about the nicest boy on earth who happens to have a devils’ face! But this guy is going to work for what remains of the apparatus, so he is probably a cordial not-so-nice boy XD
The Gould Library (panel 1) is quite an impressive building (some of its aspects remind me of the library at my college, https://tinyurl.com/yxcewc4g ).
Meanwhile, at an undisclosed location, DoubleUp introduces the Ace of Spades and us to Richard Bonhomme, a.k.a. Mr. Bones. And Mr. Bones is a scary dude! I assume he is an accomplished veteran assassin-for-hire….
This whole “Let’s have an exhibit honoring our heroes while they are still alive” thing never works our well for people. Ask Barry Allen about the Flash Museum.

I guess Mr. Bones was brought in to help Ace of Spades and Double Up rebuild the organization. All the low level employees were headed to jail.
BreathlessMahoney77 about 3 years ago
Mr. Bones has potential as a villain, but I have to admit constantly reading Double-Up’s verbal tics is starting to grow old. Grow old.
