There’s still room to criticize Opal: for not looking there before, not finding them sooner, “losing” them and not finding them in such an obvious place, etc. I wouldn’t suggest Earl do it.

Opal has the cheque book.

Look in your other sweater pocket, Opal. I’ll bet the checkbook is there.

And I just found your check book, Perl, it was in the bottom of the garbage pail.

This story board has come and gone long ago.

OY! Opal is gloating….but who knows….maybe it wasn’t Earl who lost the checkbook….maybe she left it in the Fabric store….

Me second wife told me one of my more exasperating traits was immediately agreeing with her after she came up with valid support for one of her arguments. Worse, I could immediately tell her why her view had been better than mine. However, she never did win the one about whether my cat was allowed to sleep on the bed. I simply told her I was going to sleep with the cat. :)

The checkbook is in Pearl’s purse.

I would have a hard time finding my checkbook… haven’t used it in ages

My wife of 61 years is 85 & I’m 86. Things now get lost by our new practiced slight of hand magic tricks. I hands ‘Hide Things’ either in plain sight or a logical place.

He got it from the hall table drawer, wrote a check for optometrist, dropped the checkbook in Pearl’s purse which sits “on” the hall table. He would never look in Pearl’s purse(mayhem and bedlam if he’s caught) and Pearl didn’t notice it because she was focused on “looking for the keys.”

….and she never heard them JINGLE..?

And I was again mistaken it was a way to gently tell the other they had grown too old to be competent with proper use of the car and the checkbook. Now for on-line porn and using the credit card for kitty treats.

Sneaky. Reminds me of a bit from All in the Family. Archie and Mike have a bet over who can hold out longer — Archie giving up cigars, or Mike giving up eating. When they finally declare a truce, they agree to smoke/eat at the same time to end the bet. But Archie delays bringing the cigar to his lips just long enough that Mike eats first.
