in cricket, one of the ways to get the batsman out is to hit the wicket-5 balanced sticks behind him. the size of the bat was only regulated when a man showed up with a bat that was larger than the wicket and just put it in front of the target. this led to a conversation as to what was ok.

I say if he can swing it without hurting himself or anyone else, let him play.

Regardless of the legality of the club, he grounded it in the bunker – that’s a stroke penalty.

On some courses, there were such things as “grass bunkers”. for every shot from those, one had to stand in an uneven lie. No special clubs needed; but your swing had to be right.
