More bad assumptions from one of the kids . He really thinks commercials tell the truth? And that his phone is involved in a web search? (It only shows the results, which takes very little power and speed.)
A search isn’t relying on your phone’s computational power, it’s running on servers (other peoples computers). You may get what you were looking for and the company running the servers get information about you and money for clogging your connection with a shitload of advertisement.
Speaking of cultures awash in advertising, seen the jerseys of the Tour de France teams, Jef? They’re starting to look like NASCAR uniforms with all the advertising. (Or does that not count?)
More like wasting my time for something I don’t need or want (if I did, I’d have it already), and probably insulting my intelligence while doing so…

The saying used to be “Find a problem and sell the solution.” Now it’s “CREATE a problem and sell the solution.”

The kid nailed it in the 2nd panel. Advertising goal: to convince a person who just got up from eating a full meal that he/she feels hunger pains
An old adman’s maxim: sell the sizzle not the steak.
Pie in the sky [fill in item] can be yours for only . . .
But wait!! There’s more!!

Growing up in the 50s when there was only ONE commercial break in a half hour show has kept me off TV for years. The crap people put up with…

I hate those drug ads with the beautiful smiling people. With the corny songs or they murder a former hit song.

Commercials make me angry that they are intruding on my life.
