When people have to think of their own survival 24/7/365 “litter” of all types is not even a consideration, which is why parts of every village are a mess the people that live there don’t care.
Today’s strip reminds me of one of the first Calvin and Hobbes Sunday strips that I read. It was in 1987 and helped Calvin and Hobbes on its way to becoming my favourite strip.
Calvin finds a tin can and picks it up. He complains that because someone else through it away he has to carry it to a bin. This is uncharacteristic of Calvin, of course, and shows how he and Bill Watterson (the author/artist of the strip) care about the environment. Calvin starts a long tirade against people polluting the planet. Hobbes – who is, of course, a tiger – says that not being human is a source of personal pride. Calvin looks at us as Hobbes walks on ahead. Calvin catches up with Hobbes and is now naked and carrying his clothes as well as the can. Calvin tells Hobbes, “I’m with you, buddy.”
Ottawa has a great recycling program. Metal, plastics, paper, organics and even pet poop. I only put out one small bag of garage every week. My neighbour across the street doesn’t recycle anything and puts out up to 4 bags of garbage a week. Drives me crazy.
I’d like to be able to do it with all the garbage I see on the side of the road. I mean REALLY! Do people have to be so lazy and slovenly to throw junk out the windows of their cars???
Recycling centers are closing down all over the country when they should be subsidized. They cannot make money because the plastic they are required to take is not worth recycling. You can only grind up so many bottles and press them into blocks.
In “The Graduate”, a college student is advised by an older man that “Plastics are the Future”. Well, the future is here and it is covered in plastic.
The Earth doesn’t share our prejudice towards plastic. Plastic came out of the Earth! The Earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the Earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place: it wanted plastic for itself, didn’t know how to make it, needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old philosophical question: “Why are we here?” PLASTIC!!! George Carlin
Oddly, as I was reading the comments I saw a rather large cardboard box happily blow across my backyard. Whose is it? Who knows. It’s windy. Why do people put their garbage out early the day before pickup when it’s windy?
I volunteer with a group that cleans up a local road 3 times a year. It’s amazing how much stuff we collect from a mile of highway. People treat it like a public dump.
What about all the “contagious” CCP-flu masks that people just throw on the ground? Haven’t heard anything about them being a reason that the CCP-flu is still around.

Lately I’ve been thinking how much better the world could be if that which people do to others would happen to them first.

The same towns that complain about litter are the same ones that are too cheap to put garbage receptacles in public spaces.

Teaching kids as they grow up to be responsible is a thing of the past, in most cases these days….pitiful

One reason you see cigarette butts is because cars no longer have ash trays. Whats up with that. And no I don’t smoke.

Excellent idea. We need more litters out there cleaning up the highways and rivers.

I would love to do that with dirty diapers I find on my bicycle rides or walks.

This is similar to an early scene in a Carl Hiaasen novel. Sick Puppy, I think.
