I recently went by a house we used to own in CT about 35 years ago. We had a living Christmas tree that year and planted it in the Spring, when the ground thawed. It was about 18" tall when we planted it it, now it’s about 30 feet tall. Nothing tells you that time has passed like that.
My truckin’ buddy and I retired in ’07 when she was 17 years old and she made it to 23 years old before she crossed over the bridge. So yeah, I hope your friend makes a bunch more years making memories.
‘Plant pears for your heirs,’ because they can take up to ten years to start producing, but if you want to taste your first homegrown fruit the very next year, plant a peach. A Kit Donnell, if you can find one—best peach there is.

My son was bragging to me last Saturday he planted a Pecan Tree. He has great expectations.

What’s all this rewinding and reminiscing? I hope JJ is not thinking of retirement.

No offense intended but just maybe JJ should have drawn that tree limb with just a shade more wood on it.

Gene might be disappointed that it’s not a tire swing.

The best photo for them in panel 4 will take one long selfie stick!

This is getting real bittersweet with memories; like there is a wrap up coming. Please, JJ, keep going.

“See the tree, how big it’s grown
But friend it hasn’t been too long
It wasn’t big
I laughed at her and she got mad,
The first day that she planted it
Was just a twig
Then the first snow came and she ran out
To brush the snow away
So it wouldn’t die
Came runnin’ in all excited,
Slipped and almost hurt herself
And I laughed till I cried"

Very poignant comic today- it has me thinking of ’Cat’s Cradle" by Harry Chapin.

That’s a mighty skinny limb to be holding up a swing and two adults :^)…
