There is truth to this. It is part of the reason my handwriting is so bad. Thank God for spell checking, the only problem is when you spell so bad that the computer has no idea what you are trying to say.
It has become more difficult for students to hide their inability to spell by their poor handwriting. At the same time, it has become easier (too easy) for students to not (have to) learn or know how to spell with having and using computers and other electronic resources.
Noted in GC that a faint blue line appears sometimes, often under words that, depending on use, can either be two or combined as one. The pop-up is not always helpful.
Even worse my spell checker does not work half of the time to aleart me to any errrors and most of the time the error is close enough to list the correct spelling the ballpark is too small.

I usually aced the spelling tests in grade school. But now I sometimes have to rely on spell check or open the dictionary.
