The “Iron in spinach” myth (born from a mistyped number) has been debunked thousands of times in the last 100 years.

Every tablespoon of blackstrap molasses has about 60 calories. Although it has a lot of nutrients (including, yes, iron), I hope she diluted it a bit if she expects them to eat that whole pot.

(It would also probably cover up the smell and taste of anything else she put in there)

“Liver and beans in a molasses sauce” doesn’t sound bad at all, as long as the spinach are served on the side and not boiled to death. Unfortunately, it’s Andy’s cooking we are talking about…

Liver in itself is fine if it’s prepared properly. But stewed in molasses with spinach? This woman’s cooking should be considered a war crime.

    Wow,

the comic made me look up black strap molasses, which was very informative and lend to an old song by Danny Kaye et al. and in the song the word “Hadacol” lend to another curiosity.

I would need an iron stomach to eat that. And even that might not make it tolerable. Blech.

Sounds delicious, except for the kidney, liver, and beans.

I think Andy has had Long Covid way before it existed for others. No sense of smell or taste.

looks like she got fixated on a single nutrient and forgot about the quality of the food. I looked it up, apparently it IS possible to overdose on iron, especially for children, and can cause pain in the joints and heart palpitations.

Iron Chef was a good show when it was on NHK. Food Network destroyed it.

I ate Navy Chow for 30 years, and never had a meal as unappetizing as that one sounds, you can include many meals of “C” rats in Viet Nam on that list.
