If Brewster had his machine set up correctly, he might have been able to go to that memory segment and read the partial message there or perhaps if it was written to the hard drive, go to that place on the drive and read it there. I know, that is asking A LOT from the poor guy.
Recently there was an irresponsible press release out of China that radio telescopes had detected signs of a technological civilization. Fortunately, most news outlets who printed the story did point out, near the bottom, that the technological radio emissions that were being detected were probably our own. Signals from space are very weak; those from Earth, very strong. That’s why responsible scientists wait until peer-reviewed publication to make announcements about such finds.
I believe the first contact will be something like, “We come in peace bearing easy credit terms.”

Do we really want to make that contact? It could come back and bite us.

Aliens have responded. Humans can’t understand us. There clearly is no intelligent life on that planet. Just put up the quarantine sign and move on.

A space station that already has aliens aboard, but they still seek contact with new civilizations.
