I worked in a small factory a while ago, I somehow got “promoted” to a desk. My butt doesn’t fit in a chair for hours and that phone sucked…took my old job back. I loved my job!
Behind every big desk is a big ego. CEOs don’t do a lot and sometimes they get paid even when they cost their company millions in losses (like when Ford got rid of the Taurus). My desk is a working model that can be raised when I want to stand. A very nice option. It’s nice to have bosses that want to spend money on their employees. It’s even nicer when our union contract got us bumped up in pay and bonuses.
Unplugged phone to cutoff contact. Unplugged lamp to avoid throwing light on a subject. Blank paintings to match one’s intellect. Large window for eventual use in acknowledging that one is a useless numpf.
The open trapdoor in front of the desk is usually more practical.
There is an hilarious “Mitchell and Webb” TV skit where a contractor explains to the supervillain why he had to install hazard-area tape and an alarm hooter along with the trapdoor in the board room.
Had a boss like that. He had an open door policy… but only if you could get it open. He came into his office and locked his his door every… bloody… day.
Worked in an office where the boss had a picture window installed to look out over the workers from behind the glass.
After a few weeks a woman asked him how he could stand everyone looking at him like he was some sort of a goldfish. The next day a set of drapes were installed. They were never opened.

The good news is no one will be able to stop him when the market falls 1000 points and so does he.

I assume there is an alternate entrance/exit, else it’s not that great an idea.

I know a few executives that had to close the door to deal with migraines. I think I probably caused a few.

Help move the desk? Sorry, gotta go."

The look of angelic serenity on his face… Maybe he’s discovered a secret of life that you can only know when you have a very big desk…

That’s why the workers chose Slim Jim as their Union Rep. But Jim doesn’t as yet know about the trap door in front of the desk!

Looks like he moved his desk a bit before announcing the cutbacks.

Open door, closed perspective.

It’s not a caveat for the boss, however. He seems quite pleased about it.

The factory I worked at one summer during college had a very similar setup for the suggestion box.

Perhaps the caveat is that the door is only open a crack…which makes it difficult to see the whole picture?

The downside to that open door policy is that they can only give him pancakes for lunch.

The desk is shoved against the door so it can’t open to let someone in.
