Those fortune tellers — I think also called as cootie-catchers — sure were something. They’re still made, right?

Another sign that Calvin sometimes feels being beaten up by Susie is worth the pain. He feels the same with Hobbes. Sometimes the beating is worthwhile sometimes not. He never enjoys the beatings he gets from Moe which is one of the reasons why Moe is a bully whereas Calvin, Hobbes and Susie are not.

Just try that with Moe!!

If C&H was set in the 21 century, Calvin would do something much worse than that and still get beaten up by Susie

I can’t recall an incident (other than snowballs and water balloons) where Calvin has physically abused Susie. Normally, it’s verbal taunting.

On the other hand, Susie often “decks” Calvin.

Double standard?

I never knew how to put one of those things together…

And so we see the creation of a submissive male who enjoys the punishment doled out by the dominant female.

I’m not sure what she expected to happen.

Cal’s tolerance for pain is higher than for some others.

Geez! Even the naughty little boys in my neighborhood don’t go THAT far!

Not so funny, considering that violence in homes is a horrific crime.

Poor Calvin… He will be the guy who tells really bad jokes at the parties when he grows up.

We used to call them Cootie Catchers, but doubtfully Calvin wants to catch cooties from Susie.

I’m guessing the other possibilities weren’t much better if Calvin drew it up.

I remember those things. Somehow, I always seemed to end up either in love with the user or owing her money. I think my ex-wife was a master of those things.

You can tell that his laugh is more of an exaggerated one rather than a genuine one.

Yesterday, I explained that the reason I sometimes reply to a reply that was made to me a day earlier is because I don’t usually get a second chance to read the comic strips on-line. Today I am getting a second chance so I may reply to some comments including replies to my earlier comments.

I first learned of those “cootie catcher” fortune tellers from the old “Arthur” episode where Prunella has one; they would pick a color and then two numbers.

It’s the simple things.

I suspect that’s what all the flaps said.

Calvin, what we missed is the quick momentum transfer from Susie to you. Susie is not only smart but swift too.
