What would Jews and Muslims say what the greatest (edible) modern invention is? I think vegetarians/vegans would say it is their kind of bacon.

This plugger no longer eats bacon, despite fond memories of the BLT.

Mom and Dad ate pretty much unprocessed food. Mom cooked from scratch. No canned or frozen food. But bacon was in the diet and rendered bacon fat was used for cooking. They both lived into their late nineties. Mom rarely drank alcohol but Dad smoked Fatimas, cigars and had at least one drink a day. All my older siblings died in their sixties and seventies with cancer with exception to a sister who made it to 83. What we siblings all shared is processed foods, leaded gasoline and above ground atomic bomb testing. Not sure if that’s causality.

Precooked Costco bacon slices in the microwave for 18 seconds, heaven……

With each crunch, you can almost hear the last “oink” of the pig.

It is a challenge to cook it just right in a microwave — not too floppy, not too crisp. Two seconds can make all the difference. But, boy, the cleanup is great! Just throw the paper towels away. No huge, greasy pan to wash; no splatters on the stove, counter, wall (never sure how it gets so far); no having to decide what to do with the grease: should I save it for cooking and feel guilty about our diet, or should I pour it into an old can and through it away (and guilty about the waste and having to clean the trash can because it spilled).

At the MN State Fair they are selling one thick slice of “Big Fat Bacon” on a stick for $8. Long lines for that.

Didn’t know that was a thing… I’d think part of bacon’s appeal is the sizzle of the prep, like the smell of coffee brewing.

Bacon-Test strips for sauces you’re concocting.

I’ve never seen precooked bacon but I’m on Keto for life and we like to cook in bacon fat because we burn it for energy!

No. Pre cooked is overcooked. I like a little chew to my bacon. Not to mention the leftover grease for cooking the eggs and buttering the toast. MMM.

NEVER!!! Fresh in the cast iron. Then “toast” my bread in the bacon fat.

The greatest invention is the thermos bottle.

It keeps hot thing hot, and cold things cold.

    How does it know?

Who knows that thing may have actually been shipped by a pig farm on its way from the Chemical Plant.

I have found pre-cooked sausage to be quite good, as you finish it off in a skillet. But pre-cooked bacon? Never tried it, but sounds from the comments like you cook it in the microwave. No, just no. If that’s all I had to eat, my BLTs would become LTs.
