Dunno why people like stick shifts in this day and age. Computer-controlled automatics are MUCH more efficient than stick shifts, and you don’t have to worry about burning up a clutch. My first cars had stick shifts (Triumphs), now I prefer an automatic. In fact, CVT transmissions match the gear ratio much better than you can do with a stick shift.
I had a car with bench seats and a floor shift. My girlfriend would sit so close that the shift lever was on her right; so she would do the shifting when I pushed the clutch.
In my little Honda Civic, back in the late 80’s, I drove a “stick” and one morning, on the way to work, in the winter, I spun out on the freeway….then skidded sideways, and landed on the edge of a cliff….the thing that stopped my car was a Mile Marker pole…the back of my car was Hanging on it! I got on the CB and leaded for help! In about 5 minutes a cop car came and he got out and said, “What are you doing”?And I responded, “….oooh I’m just hanging around the freeway”,
We both laughed and he kicked the pole and my car came back to earth! I offered to buy him lunch but he said, " awwww it’s ok! thanks"!
I was so grateful to him! Needless to say, I’ll pass on the "STICK"❗️☺️
I read where some thug tried to car jack a vehicle, only to find that it had a stick shift. He didn’t know how to drive with a stick shift, so he abandoned it. Score one for stick shifts.
Lots of huff and puff going on these comments. It’s kind of sad when your sense of superiority comes from what sort of transmission you use. Of course, for some it’s another opportunity to throw in some “stupid Americans aren’t as good as us because they do things differently.”
I refused to let my daughter get her driver’s license until she could drive a stick. A friend took her to a parking structure with an older Jeep. I was saved from having to teach her myself, but she took to it just fine. She hasn’t driven one since but I bet she would look at it, think about it, and make few mistakes as she took off. When I took driver’s ed, there was one choice. Three on the tree. Those were annoying.

Well Wiz, you’re not going to love where Blanch is fixing to drive a stick.

I was picked up by an Uber lady driving a stick. It was very nostalgic but not real smooth.

The best way to keep your car from getting stolen in most parts of the US is to own a stick shift.
