Wallace the Brave by Will Henry for October 28, 2022

The seagull as the Wicked Witch makes sense — screechy voices — only I hear the Wicked Gull saying, “I’ll get you my pretty french fry!”

Will Henry is now playing Toto.

The beginning and end are black and white. It’s the Oz stuff that’s in color.

So if the family were going as Avengers, Sterling — obviously — would be Iron Man, Wallace Captain America, Mom Black Widow, and Dad Hulk?

Mom is at the end of The Yellow Brick Road…figuratively.

Wallace must have dozed off pretty early in this movie. And the particular weather should really appeal to him. Riding a tornado? Cool!

When I was a kid, we watched it every year. It was all in black and white.

I just noticed the cool cross-hatching on “Dorothy’s” dress — great effect for the gigham plaid!

It was not until she was a young adult, that wife realized her father lied to her when she was a girl, telling her that some parts of the movie were black and white, because they ran out of color film halfway through production.

It’s a little too iconic; like rain on your wedding day…

Oh, no! Is Seagull going to melt?

…did mom just dyed Seagull green? Or is it an algae costume? Gasp!

Maybe dad should’ve dressed as a fisherman; maybe he’ll get some real lobster haul. (snicker)

The seagull seems content with his costume.

When they get around to making a movie of this strip, I bet Mom will be hot dressed as Dorothy.

The first part is actually in sepia, not black and white, if you see a restored version.

Seagull-witch is going to have an awful short life expectancy.

Something tells me Wallace never watched more than said first part of the film.

And the whole “it’s in black and white” bit kinda stings, considering how famous the film was for its use of color for the larger part of the film, then still relatively new to the film industry.

… and singing and dancing! … and some guy behind a curtain! Strange Stranger Danger! Yikes! Plus, with a little wine, it roughly syncs with Dark Side Of The Moon.

Its hilarious seeing Mrs m loose it for once. Mostly because she’s normally the sane one. She did not think this out at all.

Hey! Does anyone else think that is a FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER image in the frame at the top of Panel One? Might this be a clue as to the religious, or non-religious, orientation of the family? Hmmmm…

Dorothy is losing her cool, and at the wrong time. The Seagull witch is about to fly.

On the UP SIDE. You should also really score in the candy department……

I hope no one drops a house on the seagull.

Play the movie with Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon as the soundtrack. Fits nicely.

Love Seagull as the wicked witch – I hope the green color is food coloring. At least HE won’t melt if hit by water, though he might change color.

Usually Mom and Wallace are on the same wavelength. Hope she finds a way to salvage Halloween.

I like that the Seagull, Will Henry showed his true colours (pun intended) and gave Seagull the costume of the Wicked Witch of the West. If Mom made a costume for Will Henry, he is clearly a pet.

If a movie is all in B&W on a TV, that is because the TV itself is B&W. Actually, there is no B&W part in The Wizard of OZ because the non-technicolor parts were in displayed in monochrome sepia and white which is technically not B&W (maybe S&W?). This technique was used a lot during the silent movie era; they would show the screen in monochrome blue, green, yellow, red or orange shades by tinting the film stock. Once talkies came out, they did that although it was much less common. — The Movie Nerd

And, of course, there were also a few movies that displayed sepia and mauve (S&M?), but for adults only.
