Generally, the choice is bad or worse.

The 2 choices in the last one was “Very old” and “Very corrupt”. Fortunately OLD can also mean WISE and we got lucky with that this time.

Lets see, Intelligence vs Incompetence. The ability to get things done vs making life worse for everyone but his party elite. Mean tweets vs polite incoherent mumbling. Justice for all vs a two tiered justice — one justice for themselves and one justice for everyone else. International respect vs international laughing stock.

The usual choice is to vote for the person you don’t like the least and hope he/she has at least one advisor with more intelligence and brains than a mushroom.

The phase needs just a little touch, plain mind and simple mind — the choice presented in any given election. Yip yip yip yip yip

As a voter I’d choose the simple choices. That’s something I can understand. With politician’s double speak you know that plain choices will end up being anything but plain!

It would be more accurate to remove “presidential” and have it read-“The two choices presented in any given election”…

A pretty decent observation! IMO the fault lies with the parties, which naturally present the candidates they think can get the most votes, even if part of their draw is ability to tell jokes or to manipulate the media.

Maybe my shortcoming is in not paying attention to potential future candidates over the years, so when they say “vote for me” they are strangers. Since an individual vote makes so little difference on the big stage except in extremely rare cases, I think it is a good tradeoff. I vote on local issues I understand fairly well but I am completely disaffected with national voting. I’ll leave that to people who actually care. In the US we ironically pick the best turkey twice every other November.

Our first President didn’t want political parties. In his farewell address on leaving office he said, “However political parties may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and usurp for themselves the reins of government.”
