Roller Derby could also refer to the hat worn by a house painter.

I thought it was a hat on wheels, but I was obviously wrong. I wonder if the Brown Derby is still a big thing in L.A., or even a thing anymore.

A roller derby is a race to see who can be the quickest to get a permanent wave.

I thought a roller derby was an English hat on wheels.

My all-time favorite Wiley’s Dictionary entry: “Prenuptial agreement: a pact for people who love each other almost as much as their possessions.”

Based on how my painters left my house, I would say they qualified as racing in a roller derby. I am still scraping bits of paint drops off my kitchen counters and other places I didn’t see right away. There is a huge glob of maybe spackling on a window screen, and half my blinds were put up backwards or just wrong. The Blinds guy was supposed to be here months ago. I keep forgetting to call him again. The top piece fell off a large window in one room, and luckily no one was in it at the time. A slat fell off another set of blinds, likely broken by the painters and fell after they were gone. But they were done painting in the time they promised. Their actual painting work was very good.

I can’t imagine a race where the horses wear roller skates, but I did see a movie, forget which one, where Fred Astaire tapped/danced wearing roller skates. If he can do that, I guess a horse can race wearing them!
