    I don’t know if I ever played an Xbox game before. Did they put out Halo? As for the presents mentioned in the comic, apples, oranges, and walnuts sound good.

    Back in the day when people knew about this “holiday”, malnourishment was a real thing, so such things were nice to get.

    From Wikipedia: Saint Nicholas Day, also called the Feast of Saint Nicholas, observed on 5 December or on 6 December in Western Christian countries, and on 19 December in Eastern Christian countries using the old church Calendar.

    We all know there are no bad boys

    No matter how it seems,

    So why must I write referrals,

    Reams and reams and reams?

    My dad used to say that they would get oranges and candy for Christmas and they were thrilled because it was the only time in the year they got them. Right after the Depression.

    Yes! Happy “Sami Chlaus Tag!” We are Swiss Americans and have celebrated this holiday every year since I can remember. You put your boots out on the 5th and you get some yummy treats in them. We always added a little toy or book or something to go with the fruit and nuts. And my kids always got a pomegranate. They love them! :) Such a fun tradition!

    An xbox will not provide vitamins to get you through a hard winter. It’s easy to forget in our age of relative Plenty.

    Youth wants to know: how did a Visit from St Nicholas get transplanted to 24 December? Especially in view of the fact that Prof. Moore was a native of and life-long resident of New York City—were Dutch traditions still held, in his day?

    Back when I had a physical medical library, complete with overdue materials, I’d send notices every two weeks until returned or until there had been three. Any fourth notice would go to the perp’s supervisor, if an employee, or to the chair of the Continuing Medical Education Committee (which doubled as the library committee) if a doc. Except in December. Fourth notices in December read:

    Ho, Library users, one and all,

    Father Christmas is coming to call.

    Your overdue books and tapes try to remember

    To bring on the 23rd day of December.

    If you’re good, and you have them, he’ll give you a treat;

    If not – what you WILL get is oft used for heat.

    (Of course, such embarrassment won’t be in store

    If you deign to return or renew them before.)
