/// Seven people are Sewing the Sail

into clothing that’s massive in scale.

    A ship’s captain in Spain

made his bride’s gown and train

from a spinnaker. (Bride was a whale.)

/// The amount of fine lace she’d have needed

for a gown would have greatly exceeded

    what the Cap could afford.

    He had sailors on board.

“Bring me canvas,” the groom-to-be pleaded.

/// Although rough and thick, sailcloth is white.

Both the gown and long train looked all right.

    But the veil was opaque

    forcing bridegroom to make

two round eyeholes restoring her sight.

/// She had wanted to walk down the aisle

    in the best matrimonial style,

but her butt was too wide

    to march down side-by-side,

so they all had to go single file.

The bride is here for her final fitting. I’m afraid she’s gained more weight than we expected.

When they said that Señora Bertilda had gone up a bit in tonnage before her wedding, they weren’t kidding!

Thankfully, the fleet was in, and sails were on sale.

Somehow, the “Goodyear Blimp” people had managed to get the material through their printer. (Well, it had ‘seamed’ like a good idea…) The 200,000-point font typeface sure took a lot of ink.

Here’s a little- known fact thatijustmadeup: Well-known Austrian composer Franz von Suppé, (1819-1895) also had a profitable Spanish ship-sails weaving business called Suppé Sails Sales. Both Poets and Peasants were employed there. A small orchestra played popular musical themes from his operettas. For rush orders, appropriate sections of “The Light Cavalry Overture” set the pace.

    Sewing the sail

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Paintings by Joaquín Sorolla" site=commons.wikimedia.org

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found, and once there find the text string Cosiendo, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this huge painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3036 (December 1, 2022) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there (awaiting Mr. Melcher’s approval) pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 4 works by this artist (5 times, including a repeat), have been used here. The August 8, 2019, strip shows the prior.

There’s a wealth of subtle shadow color in that presumably basically white sail—and a riot of intense hues to port and starboard.
