I live this little story. When i was a sprog, one of my mother’s simple wishes was that we could park right outside the department store in our local town (very few spaces ). Then one day, not long before the store closed to be demolished to make way for a shopping centre, there was a space. Mum was thrilled! A simple wish, the granting of which gave her so much simple happiness. So yeah, I get Earl here.
I never understand why people will drive around and around or sit and wait for a space closest to a store when they are going to go inside and walk all over the place. Not questioning handicap spot users, just people who are perfectly capable of walking.
When I lived in Las Vegas, there was a huge athletic club just down the street from where I lived. You could always see someone circling the lot for a front row parking space…so they could go inside and run miles on a treadmill…
Not so fond memories of parking at Costco in the middle of a frigid winter day when the only available space was in the parking lot furthest from the entrance.
I’ve seen perfectly able bodied persons park in those spots. They need to be ticketed! But cops rarely do parking lots because it’s private property. ☹️
If you show up early enough or late enough, there is usually an open spot right where you want it — or will in a couple of hours or would have a couple of hours ago.

Oh, he’s saving the moment. He probably knows that he will never get the ‘swett spot’ ever again and wants to remember it.

A moment to savor for the great-grandchildren to wonder in awe with puzzled head scratchings.

I recently got my handicap placard. I find an empty spot about once in five places. Always empty before I was allowed to use them!

Earl tells a stranger, “Here’s a picture of me parked in the best, closest, most magnificent parking spot in the whole mall, and here’s the grandkid.”

I park on the far side of the parking lot, hoping for a pull-through.

No Opal…he wants you to take the bus so he can still make Happy Hour at Elmer’s Beer Swamp. He’s yearning to be free, if only for a little while!

It took so long to take it and he’ll never have that parking spot again. Oh, no!

Opal should take that pic of Earl with him standing beside their Studebaker. Then post it to Instagram.

While my front ’n rear fenders are “vulnerable” the running boards on each side protect me against those who park on either side of my ’33.

Opal, take the bus (or at least the steering wheel), it will be safer. Earl has obviously lost his mind and should not be allowed to drive.
