    1. And that how it was done in good ol then there was no refrigerator, kids.

    2. Well how’d ya likes t-hat!

    3. Well you just said little squirt, goonie.

For those who come in late, these fabulous fun funnies was envisioned and executed so beautifully and brilliantly by FoXo Reardon, a true master cartoonist who told his funny tales with his awesome artwork alone, without any of his characters in BOZO ever saying a single word.

An especially excellent epitome of pictures speaking thousand words, BOZO also the most pleasant picturesque pantomime where every panel is like a photograph of a three-dimensional cartoon world of realistic-looking depths and details. Such was his powerful perspective artwork which brought to life a lovely lively world of BOZO!

FoXo a rare combination of both sharp wits and artistic talents which is rarely seen together in the same cartoonist, a true master and professional cartoonist whose work quality speaks for itself and as you can see for yourself BOZO is pure gold coming from a golden era of cartooning! More about FoXo and BOZO in the About page.

So no wonder that these wonderful wordless wonders still bring great joy and sheer cheer to many even today.

But despite being a great classic of great creative calibre, neither BOZO nor FoXo are much known or remembered these days.

Spread the word, friends, so that BOZO can spread more joy and cheer to many many more!

And yes of course another big thumbs up, big applause, and three cheers once again for the marvellous master FoXo’s magnificent masterpiece, the most pleasant picturesque pantomime, the ever entertaining ever energetic ever enjoyable ever excellent evergreen entertainer, the brilliantly beautiful and beautifully brilliant BOZO!

And yes, yes of course many thanks to Micheal Reardon for bringing BOZO back for us all!

For those unfamiliar with iceboxes, they worked the same way foam coolers do. An insulated box that one put ice in. Refrigerators have been around since at least the 1920’s but they were expensive.

    1. Deliquesce delivery

(When I was pretty young, my grandparents had an ice box similar to the one pictured in today’s strip. The Ice truck would come by about once a week or so and my grandfather would get a 15 pound block of ice. It was fascinating to me as a kid to watch the ice man take a large saw and cut out the size block we needed.)

    1. The heat (of the sun and the lady) caused the ice (and his heart) to melt…

    2. This comic caused James Bond to throw his hats just the same way…(though with less damage for the hat, but maybe the ice delivery before caused the dilemma – ya know the fierce of old ladies…)

    3. – “I offer free smoke samples” barked the rude guy

    - “I deliver molten ice!” replied Bozo and caused a turmoil

Growing up we had an ice box and when the iceman came with the block of ice, the neighborhood kids would jump on the truck and get broken pieces of ice and suck on them…during the dog days of summer. He would come out and holler, Get off my truck! We would all scatter in all directions. LMAO! Them were the days!

We had an icebox until 1955 when electric lines finally run out into our rural area and we got a Frigidaire Refrig. And running water in 1958. Hog heaven we were. Phone in 1960. 4 party line. Farmers way out of touch. Town was 13 miles away. All day trip with mules and wagon. We had a pickup trk and one of four in our neighborhood of about 8 miles around. Life was simple. Raised everything.

All the stories about ice boxes are interesting, but also interesting is the history of where the ice came from. Even before commercial refrigeration and manufacturing of ice there were local industries harvesting ice from lakes, rivers, and streams. And after the ice was cut into manageable sized pieces it could be stored through most of the summer packed in straw and sawdust. Large barn-like ice houses near the source of winter ice were built for storing ice until needed.

Sometimes in smaller operations two or three stream-fed cascading ponds were built so that water would “settle” In the upper ponds. Then the top water was released over a sluice gate into a lower pond before freezing temperatures arrived, and the ice was harvested from the lower pond. This would be more common on private land that included a manor house with large families and servants.

Ice was also harvested from fresh water rivers, stored, and delivered by barge to downstream towns and cities after the river thawed. It was a huge industry that our grandparents and their predecessors depended on. Eventually commercial ice manufacturing became viable and has been serving the fishing and some food storage industries ever since.

Just one question, Why does Bozanne look so mad in the second strip? It’s not like it was her hat.
